Description This Powerpoint presentation file from the EB 2019 Trainee Symposium features Melissa Bates, PhD, of the University of Iowa, who discusses how optimizing networking leads to a success in a career. For many, networking is one of the most difficult professional skills to develop. More than simply talking to people, or building a network of numbers, this seminar will focus on techniques to build genuine career networks. Participants learned how to make connections without feeling insincere, how to leverage communication and social platforms to develop resources, and how to identify beneficial relationships. There was also a discussion on the value of networks. Led by a self-professed introvert and socially awkward scientist, turned champion network builder, this seminar offers tools and tips to establishing the connections that are critical for professional success.
