Students often have a difficult time deciphering between the properties of continuous, fenestrated and discontinous capillaries and where these capillaries might be found. However permeability properties are important to understanding the structure/function relationship of different capillary beds. This resource provides a permeability laboratory using Evan's blue dye that can either be performed with lab students and teaching assistants, or worked through virtually with the images provided. In addition, permeability changes following muscle injury can be performed, or displayed with the images included. This provides a a mechanism for students to apply what they know about basic capillary permeability concepts to changes they might observe following innate immune activation.
